For the third year in a row, the 5K Run/Walk for Anne-Marie House was blessed with wonderful
weather and tremendous enthusiasm! Participants in seven age divisions from 7 to 74 years old
took to the field and completed the scenic 5K loop.
- Nearly 120 runners and walkers participated in this event This was 50% more
than in 2009 and for the first time, we had more runners (68) than walkers (52)!
- All of our sponsors from 2009 returned along with 5 new sponsors Evergreen USA,
The Friel Family, Thrivent Financial, and The Telegraph providing platinum sponsorship
to make this event possible. Additional sponsors included Toyota of Nashua, Charles
Schwab, Aegis Comfort Systems, Buckley Disposal Services, Longhorn Steakhouse of
Amherst, Richelieu Club International, Kiwanis Club of Hudson, Hampshire Hills, Lawns
of Southern NH, TGI Fridays, Myoptic, Toadstool Book Shops, Papa Joe’s Humble
Kitchen, Gawryl and MacAllister Atty., Tim Joyce -Realtor, Bob and Dee’s Hairstyling
and Barbershop, Twin City Security Solutions, Jeffrey Land Survey, Weisman, Tessier,
Lambert and Halloran and Mike Bonacorsi Certified Financial Planning.
- On-line registration process streamlined the application, payment and donation
processes For the first time, runners, walkers and donors could go right to the Anne-
Marie House web site and completely register, pay or donate to this event. This greatly
reduced our paper applications, saving money and resources. Even more importantly,
it allowed us to register nearly 70 participants and have their info, shirts, goody bags,
and numbers, ready for them all before they arrived. We also used PayPal with excellent
results.
- Anne-Marie House was recognized for its fulfillment of its mission to End
Homelessness…One family At a Time Incumbent Senators Judd Greg and Jeanne
Shaheen were among those invited to join us, along with senatorial candidates Kelly
Ayotte and Paul Hodes. Although none were able to attend in person, letters from
Senator Jeanne Shaheen and Congressman Paul Hodes were received and read. Also,
the Honorable Donnalee Lozeau, mayor of Nashua addressed the runners, walkers and
volunteers in person.
- Beijing Olympian Joanne Dow joined us once again In addition to the ever-popular
Joanne Dow, another world-class competitor, Yolanda Flamino, was among the runners
competing. Yolanda set a new women’s course record of 20:31, 11 seconds faster than
the previous record.
- The event was festive Thanks go out to the Granite Statesmen, whose a cappella
harmony flooded the area with sweet sounds, and to the Scooter Way band that played
after the run/walk and before the awards ceremony.
- Nearly $17,000 was raised for Anne-Marie House Although a most successful
event, especially in light of economic uncertainties, one area did not fare quite as well
as last year. In 2009, in addition to the fundraiser, a sponsor donated another $9,000
to schools recommended by runners and walkers who raised pledge funds for Anne-
Marie House. Schools benefitting included Nashua South High School, Hollis-Brookline
Cooperative High School, Ledge Street Elementary, Lowell High School, Nashua Adult
Learning Center, Catholic Regional Junior High, Nashua Community College, Wilkins
Elementary, Mastricola Upper Elementary, Dutile Elementary, Chapel Pre-School, and
St. Hillary’s Elementary. The level of pledges made to runners and walkers this year was
considerably lower, enabling just $3,000 out of a possible $10,000 to be donated to local
schools. This was above and beyond the $17,000 raised for Anne-Marie House.
